Believe it or not I too have had to watch my weight. I was in college and enjoying my life of 25 cent wings on Tuesday night and a fudge brownie sundae on Saturday. Not willing to give up my wings or ice cream I, along with a few other teammates took up the practice of what is now known as pretoxing. If we knew that we were going out to eat, we would spend 4 days prior doing at least 30 additional minutes of cardio a day in preparation. Calorie consumption is cumulative, there is no such thing as a good or bad day. So you can start now in preparation for your weekend to come. Here are things that you can do over the next four days to get that caloric deficit that you will need for the 4th of July weekend:
- 30 minutes extra on the treadmill (4 days).
- A 20 minute morning or evening run (3 days).
- Water please - as your breverage of choice (4 days).
- Finish all food by 7pm (4 days).
Only a four day journey to your guilt-free holiday weekend. You got it!
Due to the upcoming Holiday Festivities, there will be NO Class this upcoming Wednesday, July 3 or Thursday, July 4th. Have a great 4th of July and workout...
In the event of threatening weather (such as thunder and lightning) please check the Love You Healthy Facebook page with the latest updates on weather. You will find out there whether Spin & Splash as well as our Tuesday, Thursday Lap Swim/Pool Workout Class are canceled. Cancellations are extremely rare as the rain usually wait until after class to appear! You are always welcome to email or call me directly.
As a track and field student-athlete discipline in all forms was a major part of my life. I did whatever I could, better in an effort to perform better, and when my discipline waned, my coach soon helped me to get back on track (i.e excusing me from practice for not being at least 5 minutes early). As an adult I have to consciously reevaluate ways to engage that side of me. It helps my home-life, my business and my health run a lot smoothly. However, it can be a struggle to do so.
Self-discipline is described by some as the ability to get yourself to take action regardless of your emotional state (ouch). Theodore Roosevelt believed this is what ultimately made us successful. As many of you know I recently began my summer project of instructing Camp Fit, an all-day adolescent fitness camp at Piedmont Park. I also had the bright idea of starting a summer Lap Swim/Pool Workout class Tuesday and Thursday @6AM. I also have clients, LYH Circuit classes and...kids! I never thought my summer would be challenging until it started and I found myself having to regain discipline.
We will all come across things that we want and would love to do but in order to do them well, we have to exercise discipline. At some point in the past we all had to. However as we get older we resist going to that uncomfortable place that often breeds success in whatever you are trying to accomplish.
So set your intention to do something successfully and engage the discipline that you have and will need to accomplish your goal.
Last Thursday was the perfect day for LYH - Yoga @6. Meredith taught a fabulous class with passerby's and current participants wanting more. Look for LYH Yoga @6 to become a new addition to the Piedmont Park Love You Healthy Series in the Fall (2013). In the meantime, here are the upcoming dates for the month of July. I hope that you can make it to these next two complimentary yoga classes designed to do just that - compliment you.
LYH Yoga @6 (upcoming dates): Thursday, July 11 & July 25
Check out Rebecca in the season premier of Devious Maids tonight on Lifetime Network. I have seen the trailer and loved it. I'm sure you will too. It premiers tonight @10pm, so stay up, record it or do whatever you can to see it. She is fabulous (I think I'm a little scared of her now) no squats for Rebecca means no squats for Rebecca. :-)Watch the trailer here: mylifetime.
June 20 marked the grand opening of the park expansion connecting the Ansley community to the park. Piedmont Park's Camp Fit (fitness camp for adolescents, instructed by Saidah) was able to participate in the celebration. The development of that land, which sits at the corner of Piedmont and Monroe, includes new pedestrian entrances, boardwalks, a pickup sports field, paths and more. The park is now accessible through Piedmont Ave, as well as Monroe which is a great shortcut to get your little ones and mine to the Legacy Fountain. Thanks toMayor Kasim Reed for his words, frisbee play with the kids and pic with me! For more on the new park expansion click here for Channel 2 News Full Story.
