Apples & Cheese: a well-balanced and healthy snack.
Lately, I have been receiving a lot of inquiries about diet. What can I do to change my diet? How can I get off this last ten pounds? Looking at food journals many times there is no one thing that stands out as something detrimental to your diet what I often do see is lifestyle changes that need to happen in and effort to improve when and what you eat. For example, if you have an all day meeting that is sure to be equipped with pastries and coffee, bring your water and fruit. If you are meeting a friend for lunch or going out for dinner eat a small healthy snack BEFORE you go. One thing that I've noticed is that those with healthy food habits are generally...healthier. Here are a few tips that my friends and I engage in that keep us healthy and fit.
1.) Before a big night out ...consuming more than our normal intake of water.
2.) Joining friends for lunch...having a well-balanced healthy breakfast.
3.) Going out of town...participating in a total body workout the day before.
4.) Meetings at work...bring healthy snacks that you like.
I'm not sure if it's the settling of my schedule, these gorgeous days that we have had, or the fact that football season is around the corner but I have been eager to get back to my fitness routine. We all go through periods in the year when we totally let things go. Afterall it's impossible to give everything 100% all the time, but now it's time for fitness. Channeling your energy and participating in a deliberate fitness routine is key for this time of year. We have two months until the Holiday Season and trust me, as a trainer I have seen the peaks and valleys and understand that our time to beat the buldge is limited. As I begin my routine with my visits to the Forum Athletic Club and running a few miles a week, keep in mind that you should also begin running a few miles a week in order to begin a new phase and cycle of fitness. Hope to see you all soon as we head to the Active Oval (for warm-up)! ;-)
We have been approved to continue Splash in September! For those interested in continuing through the beginning of Fall a new registration link will be up next week. Also, shoot me an email if you would like to continue. Again, this would be Splash only as Spinergy is set to resume after the Labor Day weekend. Have a great week everyone!
High repetitions low weights is the name of the game for the month of August. As the month progresses look for the weights to get heavier. However, for the remainder of the summer, we are looking to make you sweat. So bring plenty of water and I will bring the towels (promise) and let's get ready to work. The bikes will be back soon as this our last month of Spin and Splash. Hope to see you all soon. Look for Monday to be the most intense workout of the week.
Mel B. and Gabe gave birth to a healthy baby boy! We are so happy for both of them and we are so lucky to get to know both of the parents. Our first ever Spinergy - Love You Healthy baby! Melanie worked out with the class her entire pregnancy proving that exercises can be modified and you can keep moving, safely. The first picture that she texted me was not a picture of this gorgeous baby, but her postpartum tummy. Thanks Mel! :-) Congrats to both you and Gabe, with parents like you two, he is one lucky little fella!
I am always looking for ways to compliment your fitness regiment. By offering spin classes, water workout and now yoga! I receive many inquiries from those wanting to teach and take yoga and found the perfect fit with Meredith Ingram. She has traveled all over the world as a guest lecturer, medical volunteer and musician! As a Midtown resident, Piedmont Park is also her park and we are happy to have her on board to provide you with the Vinyasa that I have been looking for since I relocated from northern California. For more on Meredith visit: loveyouhealthy.com. Yoga @6 will be held in the Piedmont Park Conservancy Community Center on Thursday evening at 6pm, beginning August 15th. Hope to see you there.

Figs can trace their history back to the earliest of times with mentions in the
Bible and other ancient writings. Figs were also esteemed by the Greeks and Romans forbidding the best figs to leave the region. Figs are lusciously sweet and feature a complex texture that combines the chewiness of their flesh, the smoothness of their skin, and the crunchiness of their seeds. Figs are a good source of dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin B6, and manganese. Also highest in antioxidants (when they are the at their ripest) the fig is a rare and limited superfood. Only harvested through September get them while you can. Shop at your local farmers market, Whole Foods or anywhere you can find a high quality, pesticide-free figs. It's worth every penny or dollar that you might spend, consider it your daily dose of vitamin.
