Although the weather is mild, the sun is shinning and the birds are still chirping two things have happened putting your immune system on the defense. SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION and RAGWEED IS IN BLOOM.
Even if you don't have little ones, your co-workers do and they are having a ball with their fake hand- washing, dirty playing, nose picking friends all day long. If you are sneezing, wheezing or coughing or nose is running, congratulate ragweed on doing its job.
Fall allergies can be just a brutal if not more so than spring pollen and with a variety of germs running rampant, this is the time to do what you can to protect yourself. Here are a list of my top tips for staying healthy this time of year and they seem to help for both me and my family (knock on wood).
1. Cod liver oil (liquid not pills) - Ugh you say but did you know that the majority of your immune system is in your gut? Maintaining intestinal and gut health could be the single most important thing done to maintain health.
2. Sleep - Between work, extracurricular activities & maintaining your household sleep can sometime take a backseat. However, when you are constantly on the go, sleep is the thing that helps your body win that internal battle of the germs.
3. Medicinal plants & herbs - Every now and again a super food/herb will come out as the next new thing. Cinnamon, turmeric, garlic, ginger, cayenne are amazing plants that hold multiple health benefits. So sprinkle cayenne in your lemon tea sweetened with organic local ginger honey to stay healthy, increase immunity and most importantly - enjoy!
Back to Spinergy SEPTEMBER 24 (the bikes missed you too)!
Thanks to everyone who participated in this summer's Spin & Splash summer session. You added a great deal of personality to our class and it would not be as fun without you! However, you can still keep your body in motion on Saturday with Spinergy. Spinergy is a full-body exercise class that offers indoor cycling, light weight resistance training and core work. It's truly the best of the fitness worlds combined and it's available at Piedmont Park.

As the summer draws near so does peach season. Buying local, organic peaches is one of summers finest treats and one that I am sad to see go. However, I have been given many ways to consume summer peaches. Whether it be in a smoothie, salad or grilled a Georgia Peach is what makes the summer sweet. Here is a recipe that was emailed to me with a fabulous twist on a great peach pizza.

It has been a wonderful summer full of lots of cycling and splashing at the Piedmont Park Aquatic Center. Unfortunately, like the summer, our two-hour summer workouts have to come to an end. :-(
This week Saturday, September 13 will be the last Spin & Splash class of the summer. You have been amazing and when a workout becomes difficult remember the early summer mornings when you hammered out a high-intensity workout for 120 minutes straight. Hope to see you next year!
