Let's talk lunch. What is your idea of a good lunch? When looking for pictures of lunches, all pics had sandwiches, juice box, maybe a piece of fruit, chips, cookies etc. That is the main reason why the first L.I.F.E workshop will focus on our midday meal. Our biggest meals should be eaten earlier in the day, while we have time to digest them properly, so why is it usually something with little nutrients. A proper diet should be looked at in a cumulative way. The first L.I.F.E Workshop: Think Outside the Lunchbox will focus on cumulative eating and changing the way we look at lunch. This meal is a big deal!
Find ways to incorporate healthier lunchtime foods in your diet and that of your kids.
I have been threatened with a visit from Captain America if I do not cancel class this Wednesday for Trick or Treating. Thanks for understanding. :-)
Next week class time changes to 6pm on Mondays & Wednesdays.
Two years ago when I lived and worked in the Bay Area(California), I taught fitness bootcamps, ran workshops and even hosted a health retreat in Lake Tahoe. I called the series the L.I.F.E (Live by Improving Food and Exercise). L.I.F.E is coming to Atlanta with a new workshop series to begin in November. Workshops will be held one Saturday morning, every other month. I hope that you will attend these workshops and that you will find something that can help you live a healthier life.
WORKSHOP #1 : BEAT THE HOLIDAY BULGE
If you were in class last week, you witnessed my yogurt rant. Which is really not about yogurt at all. While doing the waste-free challenge, our family is getting away from things that either create or add to waste, including recyclables. One thing that was a staple in our house was yogurt, so much so, it made me think of what in the world we used to do before cold cream for breakfast, lunch and midday snack. Not unlike other items, yogurt has kept us from thinking about the diversity that our diets should have in it. I went grocery shopping, I did buy yogurt, in a big container. It should last 1-2 weeks and produce little in the form of waste. For breakfast we ate eggs, and toast. For lunch we had leftovers of brown rice, turkey and greens, and because it will be a late day, I might have a sandwich and yogurt when I get home. ;-) My point is try not to make any one thing a staple in your diet, but an accent to your diet. BTW most of those containers are recyclable but
There are a few of you, who have expressed interest in having class begin 15 minutes later. I am thinking of moving class back to 6pm. Let me know if this new time might be a too late for you or if it is just right. Let me know asap so that we can make changes asap or not. Thanks a bunch- Saidah
What a LYH tradition we have. We had another participant (thanks Monish) introduce a family member today. I absolutely love meeting your moms, sisters, husbands, boyfriends, work-mates and hometown friends. This is the ultimate compliment as a trainer. Please feel free to bring your folks and friends by anytime for a LYH fitness class or just to say hello. We ALL enjoy meeting the other extensions of you. :-)
Great workout today everyone. We will not have an evening class this Wednesday, 10/17. Classes will resume as normal on this coming Saturday, October 20. Remember to wear your cute workout clothes...we might have camera-crew visitors. Go for a long walk, run, or jog. Please don't let today be your last day of workout before Saturday...you will so regret it if so. See you Saturday!
Join me for the Atlanta Hot Chocolate Run on January 13, 2013! There are already a few LYH participants who have signed up and it looks like loads of fun. I am encouraging everyone to do it. I will sign up for the 5K($45). If you are taking my classes, you will be able to do the 5k (you better be able to do the 5k). It is roughly 3 miles...doable-easy :-). It will be fun to all get ready for the run together and see each other there. We could even plan for a little brunch or spa day after. I want to see you all there! As many of you know, our family is in the middle of the waste-free challenge. We have one month to try and eliminate trash from our life. We have made small steps that actually lead to small gains in health. I now drink sugarless coffee (like a real grown-up), my husband is known at Publix as the "no bag man", and my daughter mostly takes her water bottle instead of juice boxes. What I have found is that this challenge is less about wasting and more about thinking. It really challenges how you move through your day.
Do you go about your everyday life following the same routine or do you think about the things that you are doing as you move through your day? We live lives of convenience and before long that convenenience turns into routine, which then turns into laziness. It's ok to make a quick meal, grab a quick bite here or there when you are rushed, but it is so easy for it to become not what you do on occassion, but what you do... We thought it would be easy, but it's not, because we can't just haphazardly, move through our day. We really have to be conscious of the waste we are producing which equals to what we are consuming. We are now having to think about life as we are living. I think this is a cool thing because in a round about way, you become more present in your own life.
Many of you will soon be celebrating your LYH Fitness Anniversary. I want to show my gratitude for having you come to class by giving you the inside scoop on the latest livingsocial deal for LYH Spinergy. First of all let me say, that it is not just your fabulously credentialed trainer :-) that makes these classes amazing, it's you! I tell people all of the time: "We are not just a class, we are a community." This is ultimately what I am all about. Creating a healthy community that promotes positive lifestyle behavioral change. This doesn't happen by picking up weights at a gym. It is by creating a social community of health and wellness that YOU also become healthy and well. So I want to: (1)Congratulate you on the LYH community that you have helped to create and (2)Thank you by offering 5 classes for $29. This offer will be available beginning on Sunday. Limit 2 and I hope to see you soon.
If you are not currently in a LYH class, this is a perfect time to try one! Hope to see you soon!
