Shopping for loved ones brings about much decision making and stress that is both expected and unnecessary. As I checked out Fitbits, heart-rate monitors and more I noticed the blank, empty stares of those around me. Here are a few tips to ask yourself when shopping for a fitness related gift:
1. Have they told you specifically what they want?
YES: Buy exactly that and DO NOT become distracted with all the bells and whistles that are available.
NO: They don't know what they want...read on!
2. Are they new to physical activity?
YES: A device with a pedometer is a must.
NO: A device with a water-proof heart rate monitor, pedometer and a way to track various forms of activity is a must.
3. Do they get at least 6 plus hours of sleep daily?
YES: Skip the sleep device
No: Skip the sleep device
We are fascinated with the fact that we are now given a glimpse of the unknown...how effective our sleep is. The reality is that most of us need more and observing a graph that shows how many times you tossed and turned can be counterproductive by contributing to sleep anxiety. The tools needed to improve sleep exist in lifestyle changes we are constantly working to improve and not the latest fitness device. However, if it's the device that gets you motivated to move then find the right bit for your family, you and move on!
